In 2019 scientometricians protested against high APC of Elsevier's Journal of Informetrics and founded Quantitative Science Studies; meanwhile Elsevier has shamelessly increased its APC by another 50% to $3240, which is 4-5 times as high as APC of QSS ($600 for ISSI members, $800 for non-members)

What I learned from this thread is that these citation errors were mostly in Elsevier journals and caused by an Elsevier style guide. The same Elsevier that sucks billions of dollars out of science in exchange for their 'great services'.
