Important end of term interview by our outgoing ⁦Chris Stark. UK will benefit from investing in and delivering on a well-planned NetZero transition. Now is not the time for mixed messages. Chris’ messages have always been clear. 🙏 www-bbc-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.bbc.co…

We'll discuss these proposals with Chris Stark and Scotland Champion Prof Keith Bell at next week's meeting, when they join us to give evidence on Climate Change Committee's 2023 Progress Report.

Earlier this year, we published our latest Scottish Progress Report. In this we were extremely critical of the lack of planning to hit *any* of the Scottish climate targets.

We also felt it was time to call-out the 2030 goal as beyond credible.

Lots of people asking about Scotland's climate targets today (understandably).

We won't comment before we see what the Scottish Government is planning, but our position on the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿2030 target is already very clear. It was in two key bits of advice, published already.

Really excited to have launched Reform's new report 'Mission control' 🚀

Missions are a useful framing for problems that involve extraordinary ambition, and a real emphasis on innovation and pace of delivery.

BUT, they can't just be a political soundbite. 🧵

Red regions of the Great Barrier Reef experienced mass bleaching and mortality of corals at least once in 2016, 2017 & 2020 - leaving a blue “refuge” in the offshore south.

Tragically, in 2024 the southern refuge is gone (link below)

Graham, thank your for all you have done to help deliver net zero both within the UK and globally. As minister responsible for Climate Change Committee, although not always agreeing, we have had a very productive working relationship and you have been a great advocate for the evidence basis 🙏

This shouldn't come as a surprise; we have been warning about increased flooding for the past 30 years. Flood water needs somewhere to go, and if it's not farmland, it needs to be held back in nature. We're destroying natural spaces at our peril.
