Yet SA's Mantashe has failed to make progress in any of these areas in the 4 ½ yrs he's been energy minister. The only thing he has actually achieved is a slow-down in renewable energy investments: a measly 150MW from projects he's procured have actually connected to the grid /4

SA's IRP 2023 is a stitch-up, with pre-determined outcomes in-line with what the energy minister has been advocating – wishful thinking around improvements in Eskom power station performance, delays in coal decommissioning, 'clean' coal, nuclear energy, & lots & lots of gas /3

SA's IRP 2023 admits much “unserved energy” for at least the next 4 years. It advocates delaying the closure of old coal power stations, working around minimum emission standards & provides dodgy conclusions on a least-cost power system without detailing its input assumptions /2

It's alleged that Minister Mantashe wants Nkululeko Poya to be the PetroSA CEO so badly, that he appointed him as a non-executive Director in 2019 despite being red flagged by a State Security Vetting process.

Nkululeko Poya was seconded by Minister Mantashe to act as the Board Chairperson at PetroSA. Since then worker unions have complained about his alleged dodgy dealings there. Sources also alleged that Poya pushed for the employment of  individuals with questionable track records.

South Africa must be the only country in the world where a genocide is ongoing but where the victims still employ their murderers to tend to their gardens, clean their homes & walk their dogs.

Sad to hear about passing of Mama Sally Motlana. Whose contribution to the Struggle is innumerable, especially after the chaos of 76. The story of spouses of the more famous husbands remains tragically under-told. In their own right, they represented the vanguard of the Struggle

The credibility of the National Gov is crumbling - it's really hard to understand what (if any) policy direction is driving this chaos.
