An amazing SMS 7th grader won the Patriot's Pen essay contest sponsored through VFW Post 2141 in Somerville. Post Commander Granville Holder presented Nathan Vroom with the achievement certificate and $100. Nathan's 6th Gr ELA teacher Mrs. Hobbs assisted him. #allin4theville

Our amazingly talented SMS Chorus & Band, led by Mr. Loreti & Mr. Floyd, showed VDV students just how talented they are & what to expect when they arrive as middle school students. One of the best short performances ever! Many 5th Gr. VDV students said they were inspired to join.

Who's gonna win our inaugural 'Annual Students Vs. Staff Fitness Challenge'? Our students & staff are voting on the events/challenges that they will compete against each other in. The Fitness Challenge will occur the week of March 23rd. Huge trophy will be awarded on March 27th

Hoops4Heart SMS was a major success yesterday raising over $300 for the AHA. Our community came out in force to make this amazing event happen. Thanks to our student-athletes, our teacher coaches, teacher leaders/event coordinators, parents, BOE member referees & our mascot.

Our 6th graders were taught an amazing tech infused lesson about the illicit use, health complications and consequences of drugs. Students were very engaged and focused intently on the many scenarios Somerville Police Officer Spadea provided them. Great lesson!

Mr. Shaker's 8th Gr. class invited members of the school community to engage a Gallery Walk today. Students engaged a Geometry Scavenger hunt in which they identified real world (Geometry-related) objects at home & wrote about how each shape or object impacts students lives.
