A little bio update this week… delighted
to start working as an NIHR Research Clinical Lecturer in Infectious Disease at the wonderful London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Currently working on NHS time - busy but fab. Onwards and upwards for research too!

Graduated from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine today… amazing to prance around in a silly hat and red gown and celebrate the ol’ PhD. So grateful to the most amazing supervisors Liz Corbett Peter MacPherson (and Katherine Fielding who is maybe not on Twitter). Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme

I am so proud of my friends Sam and Helen… 1st and 2nd place in Spine South. These women are amazing!! 🏆 And good luck to Hannah Rickman on the whole Spine course. The dot watching is thrilling!

And Helen Dale and Sam Lissaeur currently totally bossing the Montane Spine Race Spine South! I am so proud of my friends…. Totally bossing being docs, caring about global health and running a very difficult ultramarathon race!

Goodness, a beautiful essay that had me welling up. I’m navigating a return from Malawi to London infectious disease / TB medicine. Good, yet challenging, to read beautiful writing about intersection of TB, poverty, suffering and compassion in healthcare - even in rich London.

Thrilled that today Joe Jarvis and I were able to represent the huge and wonderful AMBITION Study team and receive the EACS European Hector Research Award for best clinical/epidemiological paper in HIV in the last two years. Dedicated to all participants #EACS2023

Honestly truly, what is with the crossover between actual U.K. government and random American conspiracies with their own warped logic… what *ON EARTH* could *POSSIBLY* be actually objectionable about having amenities within a 15 minute walk?! 🤦‍♀️⁉️

To be clear: tackling infectious diseases - and particularly diseases like TB that affect the poorest in society - needs much more research across the spectrum from the lab to addressing determinants.

For anyone who didn’t see this when it first came out end Jan… still v proud of our WHO policy brief about AHD, and so good to have it discussed at #IAS2023 IAS - the International AIDS Society last week!
