Day 10: The hardest thing to research for the pirate trilogy was absolutely literally anything about sailing or navigation or sea warfare. It's interesting!! But it's a lot of detail, and I have to know enough to make it sound like my characters know. Not easy!

The hardest thing to research was probably the politics. I'm not a political animal at all, and the Italian politics of the time was very different to anything I'm familiar with!

11. The research gem in my WIP concerns my great-grandfather who died in 1941 when working on this mooring vessel that exploded on a mine in the Grand Harbour . I also named the protagonist of my WIP after him.

D11 : My research gem so far has been the “happy” sound of major chords played on a guitar. Crediting KSJammin (Kevin) with this bit of info and also my introduction to gypsy jazz.🎶🎵

During the Battle of Stamford Bridge, a lone, unarmoured Viking supposedly blocked the bridge & held off the Anglo-Saxon forces killing about 40 of them. I definitely had to add this scene to The Last Saxon King.

Day 11 - Research gem. The so-called 'Great Emu War' took place in 1932 when the Australian Army attempted to eradicate emus that were destroying crops in the Western Australia Wheatbelt region where Pete grew up. (Spoiler alert: The emus won.)

I'm not sure about the hardest thing to research. Since I write speculative fiction, I love gaps in history because I fill them in with my own ideas.
I do find animal death quite triggering, so the fire which killed Margaret Tudor's horses was tough to read about.

The hardest thing to research was Blackbeard's 'unknown' timeline - so much of his life is documented in scattered pieces of facts.

10: Found contradictory or incomplete accounts of several things: a man's right jure uxoris to sit in the Lords; the process when succeding to a title; the Queen's drawing room in June 1820. Was there still a pillory at Charing Cross?

Day 10 of asks what was the hardest thing to research. For me it's the campaigns where sources are in Spanish, French or Danish. Copenhagen 1807, Tarragona 1811 and Castro Urdiales 1813 were all a challenge though my translating has improved massively.
