In the week the Association of Colleges (AoC) produced a thought provoking report re the nation's skills system; a few words from me re a small part of the system I think is ripe for reform.

A reform that would help colleges, staff and, most importantly, students.

The creation of Sure Start must rank as one of the most inspiring and effective policies ever - yet funding has been cut by two-thirds and hundreds of centres have closed.

Closing the attainment gap and ending child poverty depends on rebuilding this programme and institution.
