This week is the @aceseditors conference—always one of the highlights of my year.

I'm honored to be on a panel called 'Making the Invisible Visible: Editors as Changemakers' with CaTyra Polland, Cynthia Williams, and Vee White (they/them).

Will you be there? If so, I hope to see you!

I almost misspelled 'misspell' to a client, which would've been highly embarrassing (another word I often misspell). Those double letters, c'mon.

Yesterday I emailed an updated version of the Conscious Language Toolkit for Editors and Writers to past purchasers. If you're a purchaser who didn't get the update, DM me. I had some email bounce messages.

Many editors use Paul Beverley's MultiSwitch macro to change one word to another (e.g., 'he is' ➡️ 'he's'), but you can also list multiple alternatives to choose from for a word, not just one. I've updated my blog post on macros to explain how.

I once tweeted, 'Editing is just looking things up until you die,' and that's how I feel when I copyedit nonfiction.

My current style sheet has ~280 proper nouns, including cities, brand names, famous people, movies, TV shows, restaurants, publications, and songs.

Some things I checked in my last copyedit:
-song lyrics (as in listening to the actual song)
-spider anatomy (ew)
-whether certain planets are aligned on a future date
-whether said architect designed X
-Japanese names
-math

You know—things AI will think to verify.
