In less than three weeks, Long Beach Media Guild laid-off and striking reporters have built the Long Beach Watchdog — the local news phoenix that has risen from the ashes of a toxic workplace at Long Beach Post.
We've got the stories, now we just need the eyeballs: rb.gy/y5p23k

Personally, I have reported numerous stories that likely frustrated and even angered Office of Mayor Rex Richardson Rex Richardson at times, but even he sees the value in our work and is looking to preserve journalism in Long Beach as Melissa Evans and Jeremiah Dobruck actively decimate it
Striking and laid off staff from the Long Beach Post and Long Beach Business Journal are accusing the local media outlet of union busting and mismanagement, picketing outside its downtown offices Monday morning.

We’re at 100 W. Broadway until noon - come out and join us! #WhatsDisgusting ? #UnionBusting
The Long Beach Media Guild waited for over a week for our board and CEO @MelissaEvansLB to recognize our union so we could begin negotiations to save jobs. That effort was met with 9 layoffs Friday that gutted the newsroom — but we are resolved to save these papers. We need your help. 🧵
Also flagging that Melissa Evans laid off the entire Long Beach Business Journal staff during our print production week, leaving tens of thousands of dollars in advertising on the line. If she was concerned about money or our donors, this move didn’t add up. Long Beach Media Guild
Today our CEO, Melissa Evans, laid off me and almost the entire staff at the Long Beach Post
We were all willing to sacrifice so much to keep this paper alive, but she wasn’t.
Now it’s going to die, and it’s her fault
I am heartbroken by this. Kat is an excellent journalist as are the other pros at the Long Beach Post. It's crucial that the Post find a way forward that is fair to staff that has served the community so well.
