I'm keep trying to enjoy my 'low maintenance' pinion.eu gearbox and belt-drive touring bicycle, but so far it's caused more maintenance hassle than all of our other bicycles put together. Now an oil leak from the drive-side oil seal.☹️ 🚲🔧

I have a unsubstantiated hunch that this is also what killed corporate research with huge positive externalities.

Over the course of several decades, companies realized how little value they could actually capture from deep research and got it off their books.

Stunned & saddened to hear that Paul Wessel passed away on March 26. Only 64. Such monumental contributions to science.
As a tribute to Paul, let’s see those GMT figs.
(Not my best but one I can put my hands on right this second)

Introducing our lad to op-amps. He’s really taken to electronics. I think it’s the combination of physical tinkering, applied maths at his level, and cool-looking bench instruments. So much fun and happy times learning and doing together⚡️

I'm fascinated by this 1948 Tour de France postcard collection which, when laid out, marks the entire route of the race that year. Has anyone seen anything like this before? the Inner Ring David Guénel

It seems absurd for us to deliberately curtail 5 – 10 kW of solar PV output when prices are negative, and not be able to put the energy to good use. Even if we had a battery we would do the same as it would be financially more attractive to get paid for charging it from the grid.

The Italian volcano Etna has started erupting smoke rings

This phenomenon is rare, as smoke rings are formed only with a specific crater shape and geometry.

I don't know if this setting is on or off. It says 'Off' to the right, but the button/switch is left which would logically be 'On'... right?

Ambiguity in a binary toggle by a market leader, after 50+ years of GUI development.

Had a great time at PyCon Lithuania 🇱🇹 🐍. Thank you for inviting me to give your Python-day keynote and encouraging me to use the opportunity to talk about the importance of software architecture to project outcomes.
