Does anyone remember the skit they had at ESC 2016 about some Loreen fans, intense girls with long dark hair. And one of them was like “We listen to Euphoria… and her other hits”. The joke being that Loreen had no other hits. Well well well, how the turntables….

Somewhere there must be an archive of old Usenet forums from the 90s where people were talking about Eurovision. I am so interested to know what the tone was, like were people mad that Ireland kept winning?

With participation numbers down to 37 this year, it would make sense for the EBU to renew Australia’s invitation for another 5 years. They always deliver a quality entry and have plenty of good placings to show for it!

At one point in the 20th century, juries would be sent the competing songs on vinyl singles and listen to those, so they were deciding the winner purely on the studio version of the songs, with no consideration of the live performance

Robyn Gallagher Here's a list of all previous winners who have come back to eurovision (made before the final hence the 'TBD' for Loreen) and only Loreen And Johnny Logan managed to win twice

Every year, a few artists return to Eurovision, even previous winners (Rybak!). It’s not such a big deal, and it never stops new talent coming through the ranks in other years. Also, Loreen isn’t a flawless performer who was guaranteed to win (“Statements” proves otherwise!)

It’s worth bearing in mind as we move away from this year Eurovision that there’s more than one way to win Eurovision. Rosa Linn came 20nd last year and her song went viral.

There is an echo of 2015 when Sweden also won Eurovision without winning the televote. And I remember there was a fair bit of complaining and criticism. But “Heroes” seemed to be generally more liked than “Tattoo”.

It is absolutely wild that Australia (deservedly) won its semi but didn’t get anywhere near the same level of televote support in the GF! Maybe a result of the running order and performing the same night as Finland (bigger energy)

In my mind, Loreen is spending the evening drinking champagne and saying “I’m well made up” in the comedic English accent she’s taken to

I wish Finland could have also won somehow, or be like a sports tournament where the qualifying rounds are held in different host countries

Sweden have more or less won every 10 years since their first win in 1974. And they aren’t coasting or relying on goodwill or neighbourly votes. It requires constant innovation, always taking things to the next level so when they win it feels right

Do we even need the jury vote anymore? Are the concerns of neighbourly voting of the 00s still an issue? 🤔
