I'm at home on shore leave today, as the oceanography students (piloted by Magnus Johnson 🇪🇺 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) are reaching the Humber Bridge. Should make some great photo opportunities.

A fly-by of The Deep for the Hull oceanography students as we survey the length of the Humber and coastal waters, with some very interesting features apparent in the data.

Stuck in a holding pattern for four days as the weather and ship gods battle it out, but it's a GO for the start of coastal oceanography surveys tomorrow. A cloud-free satellite scene for the students to work on would be nice.

RIP Replays. Another part of the game's great heritage sacrificed for the elite. A famous chapter of the scrapbook consigned to the scrapyard. Sad but inevitable. expanding and the show-me-the-money top clubs don't value the Cup as much, though many of their fans do.

More ecological grief, how many more wonderful, intriguing species will slip away before we take it seriously? They have no voice other than us. ‘These birds are telling us something serious is happening’: the songbirds disappearing from Britain’s woods theguardian.com/environment/20…

11. The harsh, unpopular truth is that there’s no good way of feeding everyone with animal products. The longer we subscribe to bucolic fairytales, the more we delay the transition away from animal farming, which is essential to defend Earth systems.

So, The Mirror publishes a weather article with headline based on a map that it purports to show temperature.

Except that it doesn’t. The map shows peak wind gusts.

Basic checks such as ensuring images show what they suggest haven’t been done. Very poor… 🙄

a big week of RV surveys coming soon so praying to the weather gods that they will give my students the GFS version of the forecast and not the ECMWF, which shows days of northerlies.

PACE sees Earth’s ocean like never before. 🌊 🌈

These views of a phytoplankton bloom show natural color (left), chlorophyll-a concentration (right), and two phytoplankton communities (middle). PACE is the first @nasa satellite to identify specific phytoplankton communities!

Where's the lido?:)
What a difference a day makes eh! Yesterday's southwest surge and high tides and today's complete change in wind direction (WNW), blowing 60 knots during the night. About high tide in upper picture and 1 hour to low water in lower pic.
