I note your website advertises a program that does not “rely on sight words.” Apparently selling the idea that everything is decodable. This is obviously false and unsupported by research. A large store of sight words is necessary for skillfull reading; can be acquired many ways.

Arguably, I suppose although pronunciation guides would show want as “waant” which is quite different from the “uh” in was. I am sure you would not argue that “was” is not a word we would want children to know by sight asap.

There are no responsible educators who don’t believe in sight words. Words like “was” and “said” that don’t follow regular phonics rules need to be learned by sight. Sight words can be learned from flash card type practice, but should be reinforced by actual reading in context.

If Donald Trump had been born poor and smart, instead of rich and stupid, he would have basically grown up to be Ripley.

Four years ago today, the CDC advised all Americans to wear masks in public to avoid spreading covid.

Trump immediately announced he would refuse to wear one, needlessly turning masking into a divisive partisan issue and contributing to countless avoidable deaths.
