I've read a bunch of technical books, but I have yet to find one that was more valuable than actually learning by doing.

If you want to learn how to use a database, just use it. Create a schema, insert some data, query it, find slow queries, search for solutions, and repeat.…

What is this Taco Bell - pretend something’s no charge then change it during checkout? Only barely noticed as it flashed by.

These people would be up in arms if Microsoft tried to charge a fee per install outside the Microsoft Store, or if Apple tried the same with Mac OS, yet for iOS, suddenly a different, logically inconsistent and anti-competitive mindset steps in.

My holiday present to myself is open sourcing my sandboxing tool, Callander. It uses some over the top binary analysis to apply beastly (and accurate) seccomp profiles that block shellcode and other common attack behavior. The announcement post covers how: rpetrich.com/blog/posts/ann…

Legwork for an upcoming AnandTech review led me to an Amazon listing for a 2TB USB flash drive. 2K+ customers got conned in the past month alone. E-tailers need to curb the sale of obviously fake products like these.

I am often surprised by polling but this one scares the shit out of me.

1 out of 5 people 18-29 believe the holocaust is a myth. How did it get to be this way?

I just broke into my QSW-M3216R switch and got a usable interface. In case anybody else needs access I forked Marcan's repo off github and modified it to support this switch. QNAP changed access methods significantly. Code and instructions are available at github.com/sbingner/qsw-t…

Apparently Amazon is randomly deleting all side loaded content from Kindles now. That’s some BS, they have no right to be touching any of my data without permission. Kindle isn’t just an amazon display device, we actually load other books on it too…

Since Apple camera updates, I realized that's the only way to capture real moments, like those little details of my kids and my wife while they are…
