Thread: I'm at the Iowa Supreme Court building, where justices will soon hear oral arguments related to Iowa's near-total abortion ban (now blocked by Polk County District Court order). Arguments set to begin at 1:30 pm Central. I will be live tweeting. 1/

Come work with me! The Des Moines Register is hiring a politics reporter. We've got a great team, and between the Iowa Statehouse, elections and the Iowa Caucuses, the work is never boring! Anyone who's interested should feel free to reach out with questions. us232.dayforcehcm.com/CandidatePorta…

The Biden admin just announced the largest expansion of background checks for gun purchases in decades.

The new rule is designed to close the gun show and online sale loopholes — requiring anyone who sells even a single firearm to register with the government.

I was discussing this pattern on IPR yesterday, that many state GOP legislatures are passing anti-abortion policies that are not in line with popular opinion on the issue (including Iowa).

Unlike civil cases, Trump cannot come and go as he pleases during his criminal proceedings. He will be required to be in the courtroom every day, all day, for the length of the trial.

GOP logic: No one should tax my hard earned money! Freedom! Unless you are getting food assistance from the state, then we will decide what you eat. And what medical care you can get as a woman. And what minimum wage your county can use. And what books your library can have.

Biden: My budget would finally create a national paid family and medical leave program. Up to 12 weeks to care for newborns, a sick loved one or yourself without losing your income. Look, it's past time America caught up with the rest of the world on paid leave

I can't find the citation to the 'missing' source in my page proofs. Then I realize they cut the first two paragraphs of the theory section where the citation occurred. FFS. I am getting tired of incompetent copy editing that is taking up WAY too much time.

Arizona's 1864 ban could jail abortion providers for two to five years and makes no exceptions for rape or incest.

This is the direct result of Donald Trump's Supreme Court appointees overturning Roe v. Wade — which Trump just took credit for again.
