Protest is not meant to be comfortable. You’re not meant to like protests, you’re not meant to find them convenient. It’s supposed to be uncomfortable—so uncomfortable that it forces the powers that be to listen and change.

This is a crucial week for the Hillside Villa tenants.

They are asking supporters to call city councilmembers and demand that the deal with the landlord be improved -- the rent debt must be forgiven and all evictions must be dropped.

City council is voting TOMORROW.

They can slander students, arrest them. It won't stop vast majority of young people from seeing, clear as day, that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza with the enthusiastic support of US ruling class. All this repression does is expose the systemic hypocrisy—connects the dots.

I would hope that Columbia Faculty see their admin arresting their own students for peaceful protest as a red line. These students are in our care. Our primary responsibility as academics is to nurture their minds and protect them from oppression. Faculty must walk out now.
