No offense but if you think Merdeka 118 is ugly you're wrong. You can think it's bad or a waste of funds or a destroyer of heritage and environment in downtown parts of KL you never bothered to visit frequently anyway, but you *can't* call it ugly. Perfect shot.

The same person that complains about sprawl induced traffic jams (“Jauhnya nak pergi X dari Y dengan jam dia”) are also the one who are against high density developments (“Dulu X ni tenang je rumah landed semua sekarang mana ada tanah nak buat condo je”)

The goal for urbanists or cycling commuters isnt to force everyone to cycle to work. But it’s to make this option more widely available to more people.

Not many know this but the best place to top up your Touch N Go cards is probably the MRT2 ticket machines:
- reload in multiples of 5 MYR
- accepts a MINIMUM of 5 MYR for reload
- bank cards acceptance

Very helpful for tourists, or who just wants to reload in smaller amounts

its almost like our country actually knows how to transform our streets to make it more pedestrian friendly, but in most cases they choose not to 🤩🥲

My theory; Malaysians have no idea of what exactly we want.

We want MRTs, parks, live close to work, cheap food, subsidies. But also want to drive cars fast, landed houses, and no migrants

Most young Malaysians prefer landed housing with more bedrooms AND live in an urban area

On Labour Day, we should be honest about our wage situation.

So here's 3 sad-but-true charts capturing the distribution of incomes in Malaysia.

First, a distribution of monthly household incomes, using data from DOSM's 2022 Household Income Survey.

Malaysian urban planning has made people to drive their kids to schools and to do other tasks that can be easily accomplished by walking

Start by making schools safe and comfortable to walk to and you’d make your kids shift their from car-centric mindset of the world around them

Once again sharing the table that shows Kuala Lumpur is one of the most affordable places in Malaysia because housing prices only went up by 4.2% per year (2020 - 2022) while household incomes went up by 12.5%

Why did house prices go up so little? Because KL builds more housing

There are people who are honestly arguing that 'housing in KL is only relatively affordable if you're T10'

KL house price to income ratio is 4.8

In Greater Seoul, it's 9.3
In Bangkok, it's 10.2
In Ho Chi Minh City, it's 32.5

Who's buying houses there? Only millionaires?

I think it's important to be clear what we're talking about — ARRT isn't a train, it's a bus with a few extra features (albeit quite interesting ones, like double-endedness, partial automation and internal longitudinal seating)

High-density development around train stations and 10 mins from the city centre is good actually 👍🏼
