I probably wasn't aware of it at the time, but reading The New York Trilogy in my early twenties did as much as anything to inspire my fascination with the city, and to deepen my love of literature itself. RIP Paul Auster.

It’s not often I side with the police but what would be nice is if, rather than them having to refute the lies of hate rags like the Daily Fail on social media, there was some kind of law preventing them from printing lies in the first place?
