I spoke to an archaeologist based in Salt Lake City whose crew is unionizing. There aren't many unionized archaeologists in the United States, but some people are hoping to change that. jacobin.com/2024/04/archae…

One of my more smug beliefs is that I am considerably more knowledgeable and thoughtful about, like, the European Intellectual Tradition than the typical discourse warrior. People wanna save Western Civilisation from me even though between us I am the one preserving it!

'heuristic', 'detect', 'noun', 'verb', 'use', and 'origin' all have Greek or Latin roots so it's safe to assume that this post is bullshit

one of the main reasons homelessness is being criminalized so heavily is because regular crime is way down. private prisons make money off inmates, they *need* crime to survive. so we just criminalize more and more behavior, the machine demands blood

1/ I’m an Israeli academic. My community is too silent about the ongoing war in Gaza. Here is how I see things based on reading hundreds of articles and watching thousands of videos and images about the war. This tweet chain contains my conclusions as a sort of executive summary.

This is why the IDF is killing any journalist that flies a drone over Gaza, they don’t want the world to witness the sheer scale of the genocide…🇵🇸💔

This looks like another huge scoop from ☀️👀 - Israel’s chief forensic pathologist was personally involved in the notorious “beheaded babies” hoax. For a traumatized rescue worker to share a false memory or interpretation is understandable. For the top forensic expert to…

buried on page 15 in its 23 page 'report', the UN's Pramila Patten admits that all her information comes directly from the Israeli regime, and that it blocks UN agencies with an actual investigative mandate from doing independent investigations into their propaganda claims

Seeing people on here claiming that Dune (the book) is boring, childish, etc., and I dunno man. If David Lynch and Alejandro Jodorowsky both tried to adapt it, then maybe it has some artistic merit?

when I was a teenager in like 2010 my friends and I used to go to the mall every Tuesday to see a cheap $5 movie and get a $2 'toonie Tuesday' meal at KFC. that is now a $37 night out and the mall we went to is closed

Sturgeon's Law That's why 'terrorism' is the magic word here. If your enemies are terrorists, they are uncivilized and uncivilizable, therefore no rational processes are possible and any level of violence on your part is not only acceptable but necessary

Hot take: Making modern American problems into products of some original national sin only reinforces them — and lets everyone off the hook for not solving them.

The more I do my own research and dig into secondary source citations, the more I learn that sometimes citations simply don't back up the claim the secondary source is making.

I would put this differently: in practice, beliefs and ideologies, including our own, don't really have internal cohesion in an intellectual sense. Beliefs cohere around desires and interests, which may conflict. Consistency has to be actively constructed, or not.
