Think of all the real emergencies we face: climate, ecosystems, food systems, the NHS, housing, school buildings, social care, child poverty .... None of them is being addressed by this government. Yet it's proposing emergency legislation to permit a cruel and pointless policy.

. Rishi Sunak says he will would 'not allow a foreign court to block these flights'. The ECHR isnโ€™t a foreign court. It is an international court of which the UK is a founding member. His characterization is duplicitous and misleading.
Integrity, professionalism & transparency?

We should always beware governments that demand โ€˜emergencyโ€™ legislation when theyโ€™ve lost a case in the courts. The only emergency is normally that they havenโ€™t come up with a viable or legal solution.

โ€œI have never heard of them trying to change the facts, by law. For as long as black isnโ€™t white, the business of passing acts of parliament to say that it is profoundly discreditableโ€ - former Supreme Court judge Lord Sumption on Rishi Sunakโ€™s Rwanda plan B - BBC News (UK)

Rwanda: all the fault of the lawyers? I did an interview for R4 PM yesterday at the end of which Evan Davis asked me: how would I respond to the accusation that itโ€™s all the fault of pesky lawyers getting in the way of elected politicians? /1

The last thing this govt want to do is โ€˜stop the boatsโ€™, if they did, they would have, safe routes, working with France etc.

No, they want them to keep coming, to manufacture outrage from the daily mail frothers so they can chip away at removing rights from ALL of us. ALL of us

Breaking: Rishi Sunak announces emergency legislation to confirm that England has won every World Cup since 1930.

โ€œI will not allow a foreign body like FIFA to block our right to be declared winners of all 22 tournamentsโ€ said Rishi Sunak.

The dishonesty of this - wanting voters to get the message that it was a foreign court that blocked his current Rwanda plan when it was the UKโ€™s own top domestic court - is as cynical as it is disreputable

Important point below... Govt will push this as a reason to leave , but the Supreme Court judgement highlights that Rwanda policy also contravenes an array of other legislation and international commitments.

Of the many things to say about this, one is to note the absurd and dishonest idea - but one central to NatCon populism - that the 2016 referendum vote gave a mandate to all kinds of things apart from leaving the EU. It didn't. Its mandate was fully discharged on January 31 2020.

Itโ€™s easy, amid all the โ€˜excitementโ€™, to overlook the fact that Tories are *still* prioritising psychodrama & internecine warfare over governing & providing stability. They are all calamitously unfit to rule.

Iโ€™m glad that she is proud of her achievements with the criminal justice system. Fairness requires pointing out that those achievements are non-existent.

There has never been a better time to be a criminal than under this government.

Following her sacking, Therese Coffey will now be towed out into the Dogger Bank, scuttled on a sandbank and used as a makeshift barge for โ€˜small boat peopleโ€™.

David Cameron who bitterly divided UK on an issue barely registered on voters priorities & failed to read Europeโ€™s mood in negotiations pre referendum now back in charge of Foreign Policy. Unelected. You couldnโ€™t make it up. Only Tories could treat the electorate w such contempt

The great offices of state, e.g. First Lord of the Treasury: one of the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury, a role usually held by the Prime Minister.

Then there's the Minister for Anti-woke Common Sense, currently held by a Scouser who moonlights on a trashy news channel.

David โ€˜Cut the green crapโ€™ Cameron banned onshore wind and shutdown our solar industry. ย That cost energy bill payers billions in the years that followed and left us more exposed in the recent energy crisis. ย Heโ€™ll fit right in with Sunak and his band of fossil fools..
