The grave of Joseph Skipsey (1832-1903), the Pitman's Poet’, buried alongside his wife Sarah Anne, in East Gateshead Cemetery. Among his admirers were Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Thomas Carlyle, Holman Hunt, William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, Oscar Wilde and WB Yeats.
