While I’m not aware of any attempts to ‘upload’ Dennett, atheistic bodily resurrection is not entirely discounted by his adherents. He wouldn’t see it as practical soon, however another atheist might hope the memories of the future resurrected remain peaceful.

A modified take: the article juxtaposes lack of agency with an intentional stance to suggest neither fully explain the attackers motivations. ‘Resentment’ is a keyword when applied to a social group & comes with baggage like ‘low self esteem’. A sickening, troubling attack.

Eliminative materialism is a social construct.

I should probably justify that. ‘Everything is a social construct’ is just as bad. But right now I’m more interested in the semantic contagion that spreads ideas that eliminate the possibility of empirical science than the ideas.

Philosophy Twitter needs to do a better job explaining why ‘exists’ & ‘does not exist’ matter in a variety of situations which don’t involve two people in a room with a strawberry they can’t pick up & eat.

We build simulacra to chase that of us which is human into a corner from which it screams, ‘This is not me!’ We stare in horror, reaching through our imprisoning mechanical mirror wondering how a badly xeroxed image could have saved us from our sense of isolation.

Consciousness is contingent on community, shared yet experienced as one. This leads to terror of isolation & profound communal grief from inevitable mortality. We habituate to inclusion & friendship, hence intuit Good as unselfish treatment of others. Some reify this intuition.

How I muted ‘fine tuning’!

I’m voting against ‘fine tuning’. After I saw the whole thing go down on the ‘Jan 6’ of dumb X beefs, I no longer want to hear bad takes on how we measure something poorly, then act surprised & try to fix it.

Let’s K this: You receive notice you are in collections, but not why a debt was incurred, who you owe, how much you owe or how to pay it. Compound interest has been mounting. Appeals to be lodged for a non-refundable fee at an unknown address, but the time to do so has passed.

I suspect physicists, especially cosmologists, brought this on themselves through hubris. There are physical limits on observability from where we are & conceptual limits on the derivation of laws over the universe. This is an excellent survey: arxiv.org/pdf/astro-ph/0…

I should have been better in answering this:

1) Science can be used to refute nonsense. Putnam the creator of functionalism used science when refuting it.

2) Measurable phenomena are at best heuristic for non-measurable phenomena. This is especially challenging for mathematics.

I read a sentence today which started, ‘I may disagree with [insert name] because I’m an eliminative materialist but…’ It puzzled me. I want to ask the meaningless smear of non-located wave function what it means by this, but I find it hard to frame the question.
