I am in the midst of writing a review of Isobel Ross book on co-ed boarding school. Her ability to bring her perspective as an educ psych to her experiences in such a school are extremely helpful in enabling us to see how well-intended parental abandonment harms.

The response that is given by a person in power who has received: 1) emotional lessons in childhood in how to eschew empathy and 2) debate lessons in school about to frame your argument so it sounds acceptable.

Yes, you can heal in adulthood. Things can always get better -- if you give your childhood wounds attention. But if you don't give those emotional gaps attention...?? Then you continue wearing 'the protective garment you knitted for yourself as a child'. And thus you hurt others.
