The babies & toddlers who were raised with strict schedule feeding, controlled crying & pick up/put down, naughty steps, time out & 'ignoring' cries for attention are now teens.

How have these detached, methods of childrearing affected them?

What do you think? Is there a link?

Having spoken of Radical Acceptance recently at both Tigers Group Leadership Session & at Centre for Child Mental Health Q&A, I smiled to see Tara Brach’s book on exactly that topic, lying on a table next to mine at this afternoon’s cafe. Pauline Scott 🍊💜

Every time I read a piece on nursery education/early years/childcare system, I keep thinking about the biological, relational, attachmnt needs of young children -- and what happens when these are not part of the thinking of grown-ups who design the system. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I am in the midst of writing a review of Isobel Ross book on co-ed boarding school. Her ability to bring her perspective as an educ psych to her experiences in such a school are extremely helpful in enabling us to see how well-intended parental abandonment harms.

The response that is given by a person in power who has received: 1) emotional lessons in childhood in how to eschew empathy and 2) debate lessons in school about to frame your argument so it sounds acceptable.

Transitional objects foster a biological sense of safety - for dogs, for kangaroos & for humans. (And maybe for others too.)

For anyone who missed this article 2 days ago in The Telegraph: Gina Ford insists that her 'method' of responding to infant sleeping patterns, via 'controlled crying', was only meant to be a last resort. (I wonder how many parents wished they'd known that.)

Yes, you can heal in adulthood. Things can always get better -- if you give your childhood wounds attention. But if you don't give those emotional gaps attention...?? Then you continue wearing 'the protective garment you knitted for yourself as a child'. And thus you hurt others.

I'm going to keep saying it. Empathy is a quality one crafts in childhood. The adults around you help you (or hinder you) in growing it. Sunak was sent to elite boarding school. They don't have great track records in nurturing empathy. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

I said to Sam at Vegas Nerve Productions Productions today: 'You are thinking of creative ways to talk about trauma? Have you read C.J. Cooke? She is soooo doing this. You MUST read her book.'

Today I sent this link about our connected baby film on the 'Origins of the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit' to someone. It interviews founders Karyn McCluskey & John Carnochan💜 in 2009. So I thought I'd pop it up here for anyone who hasn't seen it.

If you read Richard Beard book on elite boarding school, you gain a clear picture of how such childrn come to believe they are differnt from & 'more special than' non-elite people. You easily carry that view into adulthood & into positions of power, like PM. in action.
