Placing a hand on the base of his neck, Marcus pulled, releasing his human skin to fall to the ground. An entity of pure light, he spread his arms wide. Having learnt all he needed, Marcus slowly ascended into the heart of the ship. First contact had been made.

The last days, my future, and on the last page the date and time of my death, unknown to me should I choose not to look. Would my life be more or less for not knowing?

I opened the book.

The pair teleported to the observation deck of one of the ships in orbit. Aya looked down on the fragile earth in awe, realising what humanity had wasted and what few took #atonement for.
'Will you help?' the boy asked.
'Yes,' Aya replied solemnly.

Halle checked her phone. 'Nope. We're not far from a petrol station, though. I can walk up.'

As they lifted me from planted ground, I found a newfound peace. All doubts I had, of what lay ahead, did suddenly decrease. The warmth from beams, they welcomed me, before the temperatures increased. Too late for me, inside I went, as my heartbeat quickly did cease.

'Since you asked so nicely, I volunteered to bring a shipment of old 'movies' that were found on an abandoned moon.' Sarah said sweetly. 'It's just a bonus that you happen to be a deputy patrol sergeant in this galaxy.'

'Flattery?' Felix grumbled...

I wish I could offer #atonement for all of this. All those messages we cast into the void, begging for contact, we led them straight to what they needed.
They aren't an empire, or a peaceful civilisation, they hunger eternally, for raw materials. Us.
