PUMP OF DEATH-The Aldgate Pump was the chief watering station for the East End back in the 1800s.The water was said to have a sparkling demeanour,a fragrant bouquet & a highly agreeable aftertaste. Sadly this was due to the calcium leaching from the dead in the nearby cemetery🤢

Did you know that when Aldgate station was built in the 1870s they discovered the site of a plague pit behind St Botolph's Aldgate?
The massive grave contained around 1,000 bodies and was cleared so Aldgate station could be constructed.

It is in London and was often thought to be the start of the east end.

In 1860 people commented that the water was “bright, sparkling and cool”. The water came from an underground river.
