More animals I encountered last week in central Florida 🧵

A huge Florida Softshell (Apalone ferox). It is always so informative to see how turtles walk… and look at that extraoral tissue! References!

Now, the Makhana that comes from the marshy ponds of Bihar has gained global recognition as a superfood.

They are known as Fox Nuts, Euryale Ferox, Lotus Seeds, & Gorgon Nuts in different parts of the world.

Makhana were always cherished, but they were not that big of a deal.

Released in Italy 43 years ago today, Umberto Lenzi’s Cannibal Ferox!

Not to be outdone by his long-time rival director Ruggero Deodato, Lenzi lowers the bar of decency once again resulting in what star Giovanni Lombardo Radice labelled his least favourite film ever. Lol.

For the US release of Umberto Lenzi’s ALMOST HUMAN (1974), distributors capitalized on Lenzi’s success with CANNIBAL FEROX, EATEN ALIVE, etc, by marketing his poliziottesco as horror and creating this cool poster using an image from DER GOLEM (1920).
