I am deeply grateful to Gillian Keegan MP announcing today that the admissions cap for faith schools will be scrapped.

This will finally allow us to open new Catholic schools — all part of our plan to deliver better standards for all pupils and more choices for parents.

The faith cap has done nothing but stop good Catholic free schools and others like it from opening. I am delighted to see Gillian Keegan MP take the decision to lift the cap, which will lead to more good schools being opened and a better choice for parents.

Our faith schools are some of the best performing in the country.

But the cap on them admitting over 50% of pupils based on faith has prevented them from growing.

That’s why we’re lifting this cap to enable more pupils to benefit from the high standards faith schools bring.
