The HR Hour Staff taking on other jobs to make ends meet - when already working hard. Stress and anxiety. Fear for the future - where will it all end? Frustration for employers who would LOVE to pay salaries in the upper decile but can't - so recruitment/retention issues ๐Ÿ˜•

The HR Hour Some of my best work as a leader was in recessionary times.
Thatโ€™s when I mastered intrinsic motivation, focussed on abundance instead of scarcity, and learned to create a positive micro-climate with my teams when the overall climate was grim.

Mask wearing blue bean ๐Ÿ’™ Sharon Green eRep.com Absolutely! The biggest challenge that many people in HR face is not having much of a voice in decision making conversations... But it is still our responsibility to bring that to the conversation!

Try to stay politically neutral (at work) but where specific decisions result in certain outcomes am no longer as shy abt saying so. Not always sure its professional thing to do but to do otherwise feels (to me) bit complicit

Sharon Green Aitch Are The HR Hour How lonely is that? I know people with good solid jobs who will lose their homes. Holmes-Rahe Stress scale says top stressors.
Being laid off work, being fired and change in financial state, a large mortgage or loan, foreclosure of mortgage.....

Sharon Green The HR Hour New untarnished thinking is equally welcome of course.

Recession first timers will have much to add, particularly if weโ€™re looking to innovate our way through this.

When leadership feels the need to tighten their financial belt, they often give the evil eye at roles they feel are 'non-essential' ... like Human Resources. Hour

I think it's okay when it's genuine & being like this allows me to be kind to myself when I stuff it up

The HR Hour As we head for another rough ride, it's important for us to
๐Ÿซถbe human
๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ†˜offer as much support as we can
๐Ÿšชhave an open door & be all ears
๐Ÿ’ชflex to changing needs
Consider tone, prioritise needs & make sure leaders lead by e.g. that means behaviour not just words

eRep.com That's the first thing to stop. Followed by any, and I hate this phrase but need to use it in a sarcastic way, 'pink and fluffy' stuff which in my experience is training etc the stuff that is crucial at a time like this

Apologizing definitely isn't the status quo, but we think it's one of the hallmarks of a great leader and person.

Not only does it allow you to be gracious with yourself, it shows other that you CAN bounce back from mistakes.

We talk about external factors which have an impact on our work and workplaces in every other setting so I've started reflecting appropriately on how our current political environment impacts on these as well as individually on our colleagues too
