And, man oh man, they did Thoth-Amon dirty. They wasted the name on a generic and pointless villain who does next to nothing and dies like a chump.

Also, Lili's transformation into a dark princess propelled a countless number of impressionable girls toward their future goth club aesthetic and that's certainly not a bad thing.

It's an intentional stylistic choice to give the sound stages more life and give the story a dreamy quality, but also becomes distracting at times.

I can't imagine working on those sets. If you didn't have asthma at the start of production, you would have by the end.

What do you think is an under-appreciated series?

Maybe uneven or not promoted much, but enjoyable and entertaining...what books are on your list?

Barbarian also has an incredible soundtrack, and Destroyer knows it because they reuse the music, just dropping exact tracks in from the first movie even when they don't fit.

It's hard to pull off quotable/iconic lines at will. You have to push to try to build turns of a phrase that aren't the most obvious/well worn/expected pieces of dialogue while also making them feel character and scene appropriate.

Jim Zub 🎲 jimzub.bsky.social I wonder when writing do you expect some lines to stand out in readers heads. Like do you plan things out with the intention of being 'Quotable' ?

Also, even though I've been doing this for years, it still feels wonderfully surreal to see my name beside 'Conan the Barbarian'.

Conan the Barbarian isn't a great adaptation of the original Robert E. Howard stories, but it's thoroughly entertaining, visceral, and ridiculously quotable.

A more modern series I wish got some love, Jim Zub 🎲 jimzub.bsky.social and Lan Media’s Agents of Wakanda was a really fun series with easy to digest two parter stories and fun character interactions. Honestly a shame it didn’t continue.

Welcome once again, o nobles of Hyboria. Tonight I am going to talk briefly about a topic I have touched upon a few times recently, namely the literary development of the character of Conan and the battle of ideas that raged for decades regarding the character and his creator.
