#DIDYOUKNOW an early form of orientalism was a script called 'pseudo-kufic', an approximation by middle age / renaissance artists of arabic calligraphy. it's in the details of all of these paintings

Here is an example of such copy. Blue Qur'an is a copy estimated to be from late 9th century. Origin of this copy is still debated in academic circles, but beauty of the colors and elegant Kufic script is undeniable.
