Escaped from the bots to Painswick Rococo Garden today. Lovely place to stroll and sit in the sunshine catching up with a friend. Design dates from the 1740s. Dotted with follies of which two can be seen here.

I've never heard of this otherwise: a vicar being appointed by popular election... was Painswick unique in this respect? (From the diaries of F.E. Witts, Rector of Upper Slaughter 1808-1854)

Did you know there's a corridor that runs behind the Ball Room with this black and white tiled floor? Most likely added in the 1930s and thought to be modelled on the floor in St Paul's Cathedral. Made from Belgium marble and Painswick stone.

A beautiful sunny day spent at Painswick Rococo Garden near Stroud yesterday, painting the path up to the main house. Oil on primed panel 30 x 40 cm.

At least four Bramblings feeding on Whitebeam berries this morning at Painswick Beacon with Greenfinches and Chaffinches. Also of note we’re six Meadow Pipits, a Nuthatch, two Jays, a Mistle Thrush and a Raven
