On this date in 1981, the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Redwings began the longest game in baseball history. The game was called after 32 innings and when it resumed play on June 23rd, Pawtucket’s Dave Koza drove in the winning run. Hooray Dave Koza!

#OTD April 18, 1981, the Pawtucket Red Sox began a game against the Rochester Red Wings. After 32 innings, the game was suspended at 4:07AM on April 19th. It was the longest professional baseball game in history. A final inning was played on June 23rd, & the Sox won, 3-2.

#OTD April 24, 1970, the Pawtucket Red Sox played their 1st game in McCoy Stadium. At the time, they were the only professional baseball team in Rhode Island. It would remain their home stadium until 2020, when the team (& stadium) moved to Worcester, MA. Footage from Rhode Island Historical Society.

43 years ago today, at this hour, they were still playing baseball in Pawtucket.
