Refactoring a key feature of our app.

Writing some tests that I can rerun after the refactor to make sure I didn’t break anything.

Hoping the secondary effect of this will be that if I can write tests for it, I’ll understand how it works by the time I start refactoring.

Refactoring is serious business

But I can never stay consistent with it! 😅

Anyone else struggle with this?

Unless I use Unity's built-in functions to add things they don't get stored, they get lost if the project is closed...

I'm not spending another week Refactoring this, I'm just gonna save the BlendTrees, StateMachines, States and Transitions to Disk separately.

It works.

Day 96 of 🚀

Finally back to my task management app where I spent a good chunk of my time refactoring my code to use behavior subjects over signals. Lesson learned: Signals don't quite cut it for global state management. 🛠️💡

Latest GPT-4 update...

Benchmarked at 61.7% on Exercism benchmark, comparable to gpt-4-0613 and worse than the gpt-4-preview-XXXX models.

Benchmarked at 34.1% on the refactoring/laziness benchmark, significantly worse than the gpt-4-preview-XXXX models.

This is so disgusting. Refactoring? DEFACTO? They are still killing aid workers and desperate hungry people right now. They killed children and bragged about it. You are normally kind of decent, this is just plain disgusting

Refactoring code to remove if statements can streamline your programs and reduce complexity. Consider using polymorphism to handle different behaviors through class methods.

Not only data science but any form of application, understanding data pipeline beforehand saved me a lot of pain of constant refactors, test & fixes. Better to spend time figuring data pipeline now than refactoring it later. Fuck-ups declines!

the new GPT-4 Turbo seems... yikes?

- The new GPT-4 Turbo model scores only 33% on aider’s refactoring benchmark, making it the LAZIEST CODER OF ALL the GPT-4 Turbo models by a SIGNIFICANT margin

- MUCH more prone to “lazy coding” than the existing GPT-4 Turbo “preview” models.

Refactoring front end is very fun 🤩.

No worrying about backend, and just creating a beautiful transformation.

Abstract factory builder builder is giving me early career flashbacks of seeing refactoring branch merges in CVS/SVN and me wondering it any of it actually helped usability or readability or maintainance of the code.

“If it ain’t broken don’t fix it”, they say…

…spends two days refactoring an app just to implement MVVM 🫥

Back to working condition now 🥲
