Richmonders: which streets do you think would improve quality of life the most if they were closed to cars (minus Carytown)? Think mine are Strawberry St, Jefferson near Quirk, Brook btwn Adams & Clay, and Dock St. I’m sure there’s a ton of others on ⬇️side/⬆️side/Church Hill

one billion virginians Doug Allen @[email protected] Sorry, but no. The street system in and around Carytown is notoriously congested. You are proposing to replace two eastbound lanes and two westbound with a single lane in each direction. It's never going to happen. The biggest reason is Carytown is already a big success. 1/2

Doug Allen @[email protected] Carytown really should be upzoned. One of the most popular neighborhoods & commercial districts in the city, and it's becoming one of the least affordable areas to live and least accessible areas to get to.

Doug Allen @[email protected] Grace Street is the only place this would work because there alternative streets for traffic to move around the closed street: Broad to the north and Franklin, Main, and Cary to the south. Carytown would never work because there's no where for the eastbound traffic to go.
