Achtung Spitfires!
This bizarre photo was captioned as 17 Sqn Spitfires, painted up to play the Luftwaffe in a 1950 RAF Chivenor air show. However, I wonder if they might have been involved in making a war movie too? It seems a lot of work for a one day event. ๐Ÿค”

The tragedy of the French trawler F/V Jeanne Gougy.
A Westland Whirlwind HAR.10 helicopter from No. 22 Squadron at RAF Chivenor. It was flown by F/Lt John Canham, D.F.C. and F/Lt John Egginton, with winch operator Sgt Eric Smith. Just four of the eighteen trawlermen were saved.

Anxious parents woke to find out what school their children would be attending in September.
Weโ€™re delighted with the number of families who chose to join our family and canโ€™t wait to meet our new little Griffins very soon!

Ground crew work on a Hunter FGA.9 of 20 Squadron at RAF Tengah, Singapore.
Probably the first choice of graduates from the Hunter course at Chivenor. I was disappointed and endured the โ€œsandpitโ€ for 18 months

RAF Chivenor's Meteors used for target towing early 70's.
T7 was WL349 and the F8's were WH291, WH286, WK941 and VZ467.
One of lifeโ€™s challenges trying to get a good score firing 30mm Aden cannon from Hunter.

We now expect fighter jets to take off and land vertically. When they showed us a Harrier at Chivenor in August 1969, it seemed near-miraculous. The first had been delivered to the RAF only in April.

In May/June 1982 they were on the news every night, fighting in the Falklands

Reception have been learning about the famous artist Wassily Kandinsky. Our Griffins artists recreated his famous painting, using squares with concentric circles and bright colours.

Our Reception Griffins have been learning about icebergs and how much ice can be found below the surface. They used art materials to create their own.
