Constantly perplexed at people’s dislike and/or fear of the Gaelic language. What are they so insecure about? This wee map from the National Museums Scotland shows how wide spread the language was and is.

Homemade neeps n tatties (made from scratch), and veggie haggis topped with a whisky & Port sauce.

is our favourite occasion to celebrate our New Scottishness. Good food and drink, and the poetry of a rebel. We're home. Slàinte mhath, a charaidean! 💙

Raised in South Uist in a Gaelic speaking family that has been Gaelic for many centuries, (never English speaking) so although our kids are Edinburgh-born, they are Gaelic native speakers and I don't want to be responsible for ending Gaelic at my generation!

Learnt Gaelic in middle age, I can't imagine my life now without it. A scotland without Gaelic would be like a sky without stars

I have lived pretty much all my life in a small island, our primary school was all Gàidhlig speaking although we were taught mainly in English. I now work in a sgoil Àraich helping youngsters start their journey to fluency.

I taught Gaelic for 26 years. I see many former pupils enjoy great success in Gaelic-related careers. I live in a Gaelic-speaking community and go days and weeks without speaking anything else. I write books in Gaelic. To me, it is like the air that I breathe.

I was made in Gaelic, born to Gaelic and grew with Gaelic. Gaelic was the language of my people and my village. I work, play, write, sing, dream and pray in Gaelic and it's now found on the tongues of my daughters and son. Speak ill of Gaelic - speak ill of me!

It's more than a language It's our heritage; our culture; our spirit; our heart and our soul. As we bring the curtain down on our time bearing the torch, other bands and artists must take on the mantle. And they will - the future of the Gael is in safe hands.

I’m a Welsh-speaking Scottish harpist, worked many years in a Gaelic speaking environment and have published a bilingual book of clàrsach music. My children are in GME (fluent in Gaelic and Welsh). Still improving my Gaelic but can’t imagine life without it!

Having one Gàidhlig speaking parent and one only English speaking,I grew up learning both languages at the same time and continued through gàidhlig medium. Now studying nursing,I’ve been lucky enough to use gàidhlig with some teuchtar patients ☺️
