🌾🐹 Pallas’ cats and their prey are threatened by livestock overgrazing, mining + land development. Often, they use the tunnels made by burrowing species—including marmots—as shelter. Loss of habitat also affects their prey; pika, for example, make up 50% of their diet. (🧵5/6)

Been confinement feeding for a few years now and extremely efficient for feeding sheep and stop paddock overgrazing. 6000 fed in a bit over an hour. Just got single scanned ewes out the paddock running on pasture

After a few days of dry weather it's time to set the hills ablaze, during the bird breeding season. Following decades of overgrazing the few ground nesting species clinging on to existence (red listed meadow pipit, skylark) are likely toast.....

Very clear evidence of overgrazing by deer in a wood this evening. We just have way too many, not enough culling & no natural predators. Our ecosystems are sick & getting sicker. Should we all be eating more venison? Or bringing back Lynx & Wolves? Or both? Love to hear thoughts!

Tigers are more than just majestic predators; they're ecosystem engineers! By regulating prey populations, preventing overgrazing, and supporting biodiversity, they help maintain balanced and healthy ecosystems.

Wolves are sentient animals and they:
• regulate ecosystems
• promote biodiversity
• enrich soil nutrients
• feed scavengers
• keep coyotes in check
• suppress disease transmission in deer and elk
• keep down overgrazing
• generate ecotourism

Mama Scot's Pine and kids, reclaiming the hills, one tree at a time. Imagine all the straggly isolated old oaks on Irish uplands fxxked by centuries of overgrazing, just waiting for their chance and how diverse our hills could be?

It’s widely agreed that livestock overgrazing is one of the leading causes of desertification. There must be deliberate efforts at reforestation not marching through farmlands with guns and causing trouble upandan.

Lynx populations are recovering across much of eastern Europe, with reintroductions taking place across Switzerland, Germany and Slovenia. Though shy and elusive, they help keep other species on the move which controls overgrazing and allows saplings and vegetation to establish.

A strong and supported live export industry could buy large numbers of sheep.

Positives
Farmers get paid
Supply chain makes money
Farmers spend money in their community
Everyone pay more taxes
Mental health
Sell earlier= less overgrazing

Overgrazing by livestock can result in soil compaction, erosion, and loss of soil fertility. This, in turn, leads to the decline of land productivity, desertification, and water scarcity.

Overgrazing contributes to soil erosion, loss of soil nutrients, and decreased agricultural productivity. It destroys surface crop cover and breaks down soil particles, increasing erosion rates.

The contributing factors to soil quality decline such as overgrazing, poor tillage methods, and deforestation are also the leading causes of desertification characterized by droughts and arid conditions.
