@[email protected] 'Frustrated placebo' creating poorer results in subjects who know that they are not getting the exciting new therapy being trialled. Formally known as 'performance bias.'

It’s at least partly as bad as it sounds. But I am not really sharing it as an example of chiropractic nonsense, even though there certainly is that angle. It’s more complicated than that…

I could ignore all other topics for a month and probably still struggle to get through all that. Arguably the world of musculoskeletal medicine is a little too immense for one writer to stay on top of. 😜

And it does seem extremely likely (a near certainty) that the rule was (very effectively) weaponized by this professional’s anti-vax colleagues. In fact, it’s quite possible the rule was intended to muzzle anti-vaccine chiropractors, and this was an unintended consequence!

This story from Manitoba, Canada, is just bonkers. The extremely oversimplified version? A chiropractor’s license hung in the balance for many long, expensive months because •gasp• she was publicly pro-vaccine! 😮

The craving to make sense of is overwhelming. Pain does indeed “demand” an explanation, and usually gets one … whether it makes a damned lick of sense or not!

Just put a good hour into wrapping my head around the RESTORE trial of Cognitive Functional Therapy. Probably need another 3. 🙂

Most serious concerns so far? Unmasked subjects and frustrebo effect. And that “attention” alone might get those results.

What if tracking wrist movement could help doctors diagnose and treat injuries & bone deformities? MCW scientists published study results demonstrating this approach to change what providers can see in scans of patients’ wrists.

'Finished' the McKenzie/MDT content, meaning: I've written something somewhat polished that seem pretty good now — I’m always temporarily happy with what I’ve written at first. But when I review in two weeks, it will seem alarmingly inadequate, guaranteed. 😜

The regulator has a rule: chiropractors shouldn’t air ANY vaccines views, pro or con, because it’s out of their scope of practice: “keep your vaccine views to yourself, whatever they are.” One could make a decent case that this is a good rule, and it makes this story tricky.

Ever notice how rare it is for people to just say “I have chronic pain” without also including some kind of theory, some hypothetical diagnosis?

This always reminds me of the way almost everyone thinks they are above average… 😏

Got on the brain, multiple writing projects:

More sober analysis of the CFT trial.

Skeptical look at anxiety as a risk factor.

Big upgrade to disc herniation content (processing DOZENS of new citations for weeks now).

All new book chapters about McKenzie/MDT.
