i hadn't even realized 'redlining' was fake until I read the 2021 fishback paper. what convinced me was not only the strength of their evidence, but the incredible way they dishonestly downplayed the importance of their own findings even as they promoted them. it was so wild

i have watched absolutely atrocious 'redlining' stories get forged, shopped around by unconscionable academic economists, repackaged, and used by corps for PR and for government relations management

however cynical you are its not enough

anyway tho i am curious abt blockbusting

another reason i am skeptical of these stories is that they seem likely, like narratives about how redlining in the early 20C causes black people to murder at 4x their share of the population, to be complete garbage, epistemically speaking, and generally politically motivated

John Fugelsang Absolutely true. Indicted for redlining his properties to keep out minorities. Pleaded guilty, settled, then came out and said he won. Even then a lying ๐Ÿ’ฉ

Immigrants are the primary beneficiaries of redlining and anti Negro economic apartheid. Of course your income AND remittances should be taxed and contribute to BANF reparations

Iโ€™ve been behind reparations. Itโ€™s an individual choice. The government participated in harms and I believe they need to pay for them. I have living parents that went through Jim Crow and Redlining that affected my familyโ€™s trajectory and equity outcomes.

Gunther Eaglemanโ„ข My sixteen year old just told me this is called โ€œredliningโ€ and that itโ€™s completely acceptable if youโ€™re black because โ€œin-like the 1920โ€™s even if blacks acted like whites, they were treated badly.โ€ No, Iโ€™m not kidding, this is what TikTok is teaching our kids.

Perhaps we can point out where credit is due:
Jim Crow
Redlining
Voter suppression
Police profiling
Discriminatory hiring, lending, and healthcare practices
Failed equality in application of the GI Bill
Public school funding

Itโ€™s called systemic oppressionโ€ฆ and as far as African migrants they are usually the best of the best. Well educated, have money and their families didnโ€™t endure the traumas of Jim Crow, Redlining, and overall segregation
