Wilmeth Sidat-Singh was the first star Black athlete at Syracuse, where he played quarterback and was a member of the basketball team.
Following his time in Orange, he’d go on to become one of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Wilmeth Sidat-Singh, a U.S. Army Air Corps officer with the Tuskegee Airmen and an American basketball and football player, died on May 9, 1943, during a training mission when his airplane's engine failed. He drowned in Lake Huron.
