A short walk down the lane with Rexy revealed a lone Sedge Warbler singing from the reed bed. Also about were a very loud Cetti's Warbler, a Stoat and a family of Great Spotted Woodpeckers. No sign of the forecast thunderstorm or heavy rain, which I was quite looking forward to.

Besides their size, one of the easiest ways to tell lesser and great spotted woodpeckers apart is by looking at their wings; great spotted woodpeckers have a large white bar on their wings, and also have red feathers on their lower bellies!

GOOD AFTERNOON ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿชถ

I can officially say the Great Horned Owl has taken the top spot of my favorite owl Iโ€™ve photographed. This one seen yesterday, was watching me photograph Red Headed Woodpeckers.

Caught on camera by Mr Magee, The Cedars' newest residents. Great spots are the most common woodpeckers and the best drummers by a long way. They beat their beaks against hollow branches or tree trunks at a stunning 40 hits per second!

The wooded area of my property is filled with songbirds and woodpeckers by day and owls and tree frogs at night.
