Eric Carmen died. Loved the Raspberries. Solo stuff, not so much, but the Raspberries could bring it. Fave song, “Tonight,” was like Big Star w/bigger hair. So many memories:

Melanie died. 'Brand New Key' and 'Lay Down (Candles in the Rain,' with the Edwin Hawkins singers, were soundtracks to such a long-ago time. Had a chance to interview her (kinda long ago) on Horizon. She was wonderful:

Tommy Smothers would regularly make a certain young kid laugh until he could hardly breathe. And I'm sure I wasn't alone. Thank you, Tommy.

Dwight Twilley died. Power-pop personified. His 1st LP, 'Sincerely,' was a celebration of Merseybeat melodies by way of Tulsa energy & one of the best records not enough people heard. Played the grooves off that one. Here he is in the wild w/his near-hit:

Never expected the Dbacks to be playing November baseball, and while it can be argued that in some respects they didn't (save Zac Gallen), it was still a great season. Hot stove league should be extra toasty this go round. Already looking forward to spring.

Rough night. Not the DBacks. Paid thru the nose for nosebleed seats & enjoyed it all except the outcome. But my childhood baseball hero, Frank Howard, has died. DC kids who grew up as suffering Senators fans loved The Gentle Giant. I sure did. Such memories. Rest easy, big man.

It's remarkable how much a winning team can lift the spirits. And I'm sky high after the DBacks sweep (!) of the Brewers!!

Rest well, Terry Kirkman of the Association. Such sophisticated songwriting. Remembered most for “Cherish,” but “Along Comes Mary” is so good and was all over top-40 radio. (Yes, I was there.) That’s Kirkman with the beard, beads and nehru:

Oh my. Tremendous songwriter. Tremendous band. Remembered for 'The Weight,' of course, but for other gems, including personal fave, 'The Shape I'm In,' and 'Life is a Carnival,' which he co-wrote with Levon Helm and Rick Danko. All now gone.

Javier Bardem's character in 'No Country for Old Men' is the personification of McCarthy's novels. Gothic, deadpan, violent. 'Blood Meridian' stands out. I'm guessing McCarthy died far more peacefully than most of his characters:
