Fam, there are critical elections all over the country on Tuesday, Nov 7. These city, county, school and state races are vital. From Texas to Virginia to Ohio to Kentucky to Mississippi to Pennsylvania to other places. Bottom line: no vote=no voice. If you are pissed at the 1/3

It goes both ways for me. Yeah, don’t be a asshole when giving people feedback. There are a lot of these types and everyone hates them. Don’t be this person.

But also don’t be the person that gets defensive when you get feedback trying to improve your work.

- Women faculty universally leave academia at higher rates than men
- Effect is stronger for tenured women in non-STEM at lower-prestige schools
- BUT regardless of rates, women leave for different reasons - they feel pushed out, esp. by their workplace climates

Study (N=7,195) finds compared to men, women have 44% higher odds of being pushed out of academia due to workplace atmosphere than pulled to a better opportunity elsewhere. Even after receiving tenure, women were still at increased risk of leaving.

Remember all the things we said we learned during the pandemic? The need to focus on what matters? To slow down? To extend grace in the face of overwhelming uncertainty? Maybe it's time to reclaim those lessons. Take a step back. Remember, recenter, recommit.

-Include people with relevant expertise & authority
-Update others electronically after
-Give permission to decline
-Invite active participation

Since I’ve been discussing school shootings, here is a real experience I had in 2007 when 19 Minutes was published. A handful of schools were given class sets of 100 copies of the book. Guilford HS in NH was one. The entire student body read the book as curriculum.
