'If Labour does form the next govt, as looks increasingly likely, it will need to act quickly and back up its talk about prevention.'

In a piece for The Fabian Society, William Roberts looks at the huge untapped potential in the wider public health workforce 🤝

Franchising buses across England could make a real visible difference to towns and cities in a (relatively!) short time

As we're starting to see in Greater Manchester with Andy Burnham

Great to see Labour take this forward, as we argued last year:

These are extraordinary results. Very early intervention increases education outcomes at 16 and reduces childhood inequality.

Significant investment in kids from pregnancy to 2 should be the first priority, ahead of badly underfunded hours of free childcare for working parents

The Tories ran down HMRC so it could not tackle tax abuse hard. The worst penny-pinching short-termism. On the side of tax abusers.

Labour’s plan is business sense. Invest £500m per year to generate up to 10 times as much. On the side of people who pay their fair share.

Yes. Critical for our economy and pubic services is improve work. This will include more people in productive work and help address health inequalities putting pressure on the NHS. Workers know this, and most voters are or have been workers. See The Fabian Society research out in a week

“If the public are not Nimbys, they’re not Yimbys either.”

Great to speak to City A.M. about how housing can be a vote winner for Labour, and The Fabian Society research on the Green Belt.

Interesting research by Independent Age Phil Mawhinney-Kam Michelle Ravenor

Half think current state pension age is too high

The right support will be critical as it rises again from 2026. Watch out for imminent The Fabian Society report on how govt can help.

This is the right position on green belt.

We need to plan and develop 'grey belt' properly and improve access to green space.

Neither NIMBY, nor free-for-all YIMBY. Just sensible.

And that's what the public want.
