Very sad to learn of the death of Frank Field. A great champion of his Birkenhead constituents, a courteous free thinker with a deep understanding of social justice - and a fierce campaigner against modern slavery. He will be missed.

This is the right decision — not just for the UK but for the wider NATO alliance.

Yesterday I visited Salisbury, six years on from Russia’s brazen use of a chemical weapon on British soil. It was a pleasure to thank staff at Dstl Porton Down for their professionalism — and for everything they do away from public view to keep our country safe.

Six years on from Russia’s reckless use of a nerve agent on the streets of Salisbury, I spoke to the Atlantic Council yesterday about the importance of a strong and unified Western alliance. We must continue to stand up for our values in the face of Russian aggression.

This week I signed the Book of Commitment for #holocaustmemorialday - a day on which we remember the appalling inhumanity of the Holocaust and vow to strengthen our endeavours to ensure it never happens again.

It was a pleasure to speak at the #COP28Outcomes summit hosted by Mission Zero Coalition and The Policy Institute about the historic agreement to transition away from fossil fuels. The international community must now rally together and urgently deliver on our commitment to keep 1.5°C alive.

Sad to learn of the death of Alistair Darling, whom I will remember as a committed public servant, a proud Unionist and a calm, kind and decent man. He was an asset to our politics and our national life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
