When I went out to socialize on Friday, I was wearing an N95. My friend was wearing a surgical ask.

He now has Covid: aches, pains, cough, throat, fever.

I have no symptoms. Tested negative 3 times.

You got to wear an N95, people.

Since Omicron was first identified 10 weeks ago, almost 90 million #COVID19 cases have been reported to World Health Organization (WHO). We are now starting to see a very worrying increase in deaths, in most regions of the world. It’s premature for any country either to surrender, or to declare victory.

There's absolutely nothing 'mild' about Omicron. Nothing 'mild' about the deaths I see. Nothing 'mild' about the patients who are admitted to our ICUs, sicker, due to delayed surgeries. Please stop this entire 'mild' narrative. It's harmful.

So this arrived in the mail a few days ago. It took a bit to bring myself to open it though.
I am both tremendously honoured by this, and more than a little saddened at what was taken from me and my colleagues.
But Thorneloe will always be a key part of who I am.

There’s something very encouraging about a 6 year old giving you gardening advice.

It’s official, my last day as a professor at Thorneloe (formerly at Laurentian) will be June 30th. I grateful to my president for thoughtfully and personally breaking the (not unexpected) news. I will miss my colleagues and, more than anything, my students.

I received my lay-off letter from Thorneloe's President Gibaut at 3:53 pm. He did it which much grace, calling me before hitting 'send'.

I'm aware that my situation is one of the best (or 'less worst') at Thorneloe. Several younger colleagues have less options.
