The consequences of hospital inaction and destruction of evidence are severe and life-ruining — a father suspected of sexually abusing his 4 year old daughter received no punishment, and shares custody to this day. Rape victims had evidence destroyed and never documented.

Illinois has some of the strongest laws around hospitals, rape kits, and SA victims in the country — but a yearlong Kate Martin investigation found 23 hospitals in the past 6 years weren’t following the rules, failing hundreds of victims, with no fines.
