A lovely story about the work of my friend and fellow NUS CNCS colleague Fung Tze Kwan ! Join her for a walk in Singapore forests as she unravels the language of Nature to learn how birds are shaping our forests through fruit and seed dispersal! str.sg/viz-seeds Audrey Tan 🐋

Had a great time at Eton House today sharing about that live all around us! Here we demonstrate what powered flight could feel like for a bat - the sweating, the heat, the effort! 🦇

Heartbroken by the news of Frans de Waal's untimely passing. One of my favourite authors, de Waal's rigorous and compelling science challenged our perception of human and animal intelligence. Encouraging humility and compassion in towards each other.

Encountered this lovely pair of Oriental pied hornbills inspecting a potential new nesting hole. The female takes her time to check it out, once nesting begins she will seal herself in the tree hole for up to 90 days! And will depend on the me to feed her and the chicks!

What a thrilling night to be with Dr Dan and Sivasothi N. at the annual Navjot Sodhi Memorial Lecture for visiting tropical ecology students from Duke Marine Lab . We shared many stories about fighting, saving, and losing wild places. And the importance of empathy in conservation.

Where the reefs meet the mangrove forests in the tropical karst islands of Raja Ampat. What an extraordinary experience! Thanks to Mongabay Indonesia for the fantastic opportunity to explore this region with environmental journalists.

Seeing the Red bird-of-paradise in the flesh and hearing its call resonate in the morning air of the Papuan rainforest was what I call a 'unicorn moment' - an experience I never imagined I'd realise. I'm so humbled by this extraordinary experience.

Obviously I got too excited when he started to call 🤦‍♀️ I have a better appreciation of wildlife filmmakers now, who so often have to contain their excitement until all the action is over. What a privilege it was to see the Wilson's bird-of-paradise.

A tiger on a village parapet & thousands of villagers thronging to see it. The Primary Response Team of Wildlife Trust of India assisted Pilibhit Tiger Reserve officials in crowd control& tranquillising the tiger. Our vets feel the tiger could have Canine Distemper. Being checked.

Himalayan ibex are the most numerous wild ungulate in Pakistan. This one was photographed in Gilgit-Baltistan which is described by locals as, 'The Land of the Ibex'. 3000 year old petroglyphs suggest that the area has been home to a lot of Ibex, for a long time!

Common tree were one of the first frogs I learned about when I first joined friends for herping well over two decades ago. I never tire of admiring them.

These nocturnal, insect-eating can be found in parks and ponds all over Singapore city.

I'm obligated to use this terrible website to boost the altmetrics for our 🎉NEW PAPER IN PNAS🎉

We estimated the number of species that have gone extinct in Singapore, including those that went extinct before we had a chance to discover them.

First Lyssa zampa of the season!
Ain't she a beauty! With a wingspan of up to 16cm, it is Singapore's second largest moth after the atlas moth - both of which I am fortunate to have in my neighbourhood!
