Somehow trying to prepare for final lecture of term whilst digesting fact that Columbia University President deliberately misled Faculty over their clear intention to escalate anti-camp measures, deadline 2 pm today.

Strange that both Helen Vendler & Marjorie Perloff have left us: the mighty women who shone such a light. I met Helen in Oxford (as a stranger at a cafe) when I was facing huge hurdles as a woman scholar & she validated my mind against the gaslighting. She all but saved me....

With this letter, sent to an 18 yr old undergrad, Helen Vendler changed my life. I switched my concentration the following year, inspired by her own wild journey from chemistry to literature.

She taught me to read. She has been my teacher from 1989 to this day. For 35 yrs.
