Lesson Three of my course is now available. It introduces four of the characters from the textbook - enslaved women and men of a Roman household - and two new words; femina and vir. Find it by going to Legonium.com. ‘Learn Latin Here’ will be the first thing you see.

I’ve made my Latin Learning Blog as easy to find as possible. If you go to Legonium.com you’ll see the words ‘Learn Latin Here’ at the very start of the menu. That is place to click. Lesson Two uses two Roman gods to introduce an important concept. It’s ready now.

If you’d like to begin this course immediately, the prologue and first lesson are now available. Don’t worry if you don’t yet have the textbook - we probably won’t open that until lesson 4.

Would you like to learn Latin? I am beginning a blog of sorts, each one a short lesson helping learners who wish to work through Lingua Latina chapters 1-8 on their own. You’ll need a copy of the book and a print out of HLT Pars Prima, available here : legonium.com/llpsi-downloads

Another fantastic Latin Summer School (hosted by @sydney_uni) concluded today with a full choir of 2nd level students performing a Latin version of George Harrison’s ‘All Things Must Past’. Michael Salter (@mikesalter74) was their teacher for the week and the song’s translator.

The Latin word for an hour is •hora•. An hour made smaller is a •hora minuta• (from minuere - to lessen). An hour made smaller for a second time is a •hora minuta secunda•. From this, English has hours, minutes and seconds. 🕰

Ecce! Hodie Marcus et Lola Campum Martium explorant. In hac pictura pro Pantheo stant. Quid est Pantheum? Πάνθεον est verbum Graecum quod ‘omnes dei’ significat. Marcus Agrippa templum nomine ‘Pantheum’ aedificavit. Incedium templum bis flammis consumpsit Hadrianusque restituit.

Yesterday at Latin Summer School we met a handful of prepositions that are followed by an ablative (cum dinosauro). Today we will meet more followed by an accusative (ad dinosaurum). Here is a complete ‘list’ of prepositions in Lingua Latina Capitulum Primum to Capitulum Octavum.

I love this small terracotta figurine of a young boy wrapped up in a long himation. Of note is the red pigment in his hair, traces of pink on his face, and the remains of painted straps of a sandal on his left foot.
